Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles, California, the younger daughter of media mogul, producer, and musician Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton. Her older sister is Kidada Jones, and five half-siblings from her father's other relationships. Her father is African American and her mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant of refugees from Russia and Latvia). Rashida was born into Reform Judaism. She was born in Bel Air Los Angeles, California. Jones has made statements about her dual race parents, "It was the 1970s and still not that acceptable for them to be in a relationship." Jones made her professional acting debut was on The Last Don (1997) which was a mini-series inspired by Mario Puzo's novel. Rashida completed her studies at Harvard University in 1997. In 1997, she attended the Buckley School, Sherman Oaks, California. Awarded Most Likely To Succeed. Arabic (O+ O'UO-O(c) the name she chose) is a reference to "Major," adult, mature, wise or elder. Kidada Jones was the ring bearer for her sister's engagement and she also sang as singer for an Tupac Shakur tribute song. Kidada as well as Rashida's brother Quincy Jones III composed the song. Quincy Jones III, their father, was also featured in the opening, reciting Shakur's lines "Starry Night". Shakur's poem is the source for the song's title. Rashida is an African-American, and has lesser English, Scottish, or Welsh family ancestry than his mother (some of his African family members are of the Tikar tribe of Cameroon). Her mother, Rashida, is Ashkenazi Jewish (of Russian Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent). Her paternal grandparents are from South Carolina and Mississippi, respectively. Her maternal grandfather was born in New York, and her maternal grandmother was born in Dublin, Ireland, of Eastern European Jewish origin. As of the end of 2009 she was playing three distinct characters, including "Karen" in the iconic sitcoms on TV: Freaks and Geeks (1999), Stella ((2005) and The Office ((2005)).
