ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2, 1989. She was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was a multisport athlete throughout her youth, but she only discovered soccer when she was 14. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and came first in the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. She also came in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to hone her skills in soccer at Diamond Bar High School. She was named an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played in the Olympic Development Division's regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer in the first year of her career. She helped bring the team into the NCAA Tournament all four years and into second rounds twice. Morgan was among the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan graduated from Berkeley in the first semester of 2010 and was ranked third among all-time goals, points, and assists. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at the level of the national and college during her college education. Morgan sustained an ACL injury in her first season with Berkeley. It prevented her from playing in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April 2008. In Mexico, Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team earned gold and she made her debut international goal at the CONCACAF Women's United 20 Championship in Mexico. One of them was an important win goal against Italy, which brought the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and played a key role in helping in the victory over France. Morgan even though the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
